Best things to do in Zadar
We only spent an evening in Zadar, and it was enough. More than a day is overkill. It was just a pit stop in our journey.
I would recommend going straight to the Old Town, as that is where the hub of activity is. Spend some time getting lost in the Old Town and admiring the architecture from the Roman era. As it is approaching sundown, make sure to head to the sea promenade. On your way to the sea promenade make sure to check out the remains of the Roman Forum dating back to Emperor Augustus. It is remarkable how many ancient ruins the towns and cities of Croatia have. We do not have anything like that in the United States.

Once at the sea promenade you can admire the many street performers all vying for your attention and money. You can pay them for their performance if you want, it's up to you. Walk down the promenade and enjoy the organ playing its tune as the waves come crashing in. It is called the sea organ because it literally sounds like an organ when the waves hit it. It is incredible. Take some time to sit along the seaside and listen to its sweet tunes. Near the end of the promenade is a light display that is called Greeting to the Sun. Make sure you are there before the sunsets or you will miss the performance. The Greeting to the Sun is a solar light display that displays the solar system as the sun goes down. Enjoy the lightshow with the locals and tourists alike, and then head into the Old Town for dinner.
I cannot remember where we ate, but just get lost in the Old Town and you will find a charming restaurant to eat at. After dinner, we settled down for the night excited about our next destination Rovinj, my favorite place we visited in our entire Balkans trip.
