Split and KrKa National Park

Split

Upon arriving in Split, we made our way to our Airbnb, which proved to be difficult. Our Airbnb was in the heart of Diocletian's palace. The Old Towns of Croatia are near impossible to navigate with GPS maps. I had a photo of our building and managed to find it after wandering down many alleyways.

Diocletian’s Palace

We dropped off our bags and hastily made our way to explore Split. While walking I stumbled upon the famous dragon lair of Game or Thrones. It being hot, a gelato stop was necessary. After enjoying our gelato, we bought tickets to access the famous historical sites of the city dating back to ancient Roman times. Some of the sights we toured included The Temple of Jupiter, Diocletian's Mausoleum, The Crypt, The Bell Tower, and an educational museum holding artifacts throughout the various time periods of Split.

Next, we made our way to a vegan restaurant called Pandora Green box to enjoy some delicious burgers. After dinner, we made our way to Diocletian's Palace to admire some dancing. As the night was winding down, we made our way to a grocery store to equip ourselves with food and drink for Krka National Park the following day. To end the night, we made our way back to our Airbnb to lay our heads down and rest for a lot of walking the next day.

Krka National Park

We awoke promptly and the morning and hailed a taxi to take us to the airport to pick up our rental car. After some delays, we were on our way to Krka. Arriving at the park we decided to skip taking the bus into the park and instead decided to walk. We spent most of the morning roaming the boardwalks, admiring nature, and snapping pictures.

As the day progressed, so did we into the depths of the park. I was most looking forward to swimming at the base of the famous waterfalls, but when I arrived at the waterfalls, I was disappointed. In previous years the park allowed visitors to swim but starting that summer they stopped that privilege. They decided to put a stop to swimming in order to protect the biodiversity of the park, which I can get behind, but nonetheless I was disappointed especially since it was a scorching hot day. Instead, we found a sport to eat our snacks and people watched.

Tip: Make sure to bring a camera. Some of my favorite biodiversity was in the National Parks of Croatia. There are many picturesque moments.

As the afternoon was progressing, we made our way back to the car. Arriving at our car we journeyed to our next destination, Zadar.
